Thank you for responding to my post. I have not tried connecting anything else to the computer USB port but I believe the USB port works because when I booted the computer after connecting the printer, the hardware wizard detected the printer and proceeded to the driver install. I attempted to install the very same driver from the link you posted but this could not be installed because the computer only has 48MB of memory and so the driver install program aborted at that point because 64MB memory is the minimum. So instead I installed the Win 98 driver called "HP Photosmart 7550 series". This installed fine but printer and computer cannot communicate. Do you think the Win 98 driver is bad? Or does the computer not have enough memory?
