When Booting from the XP install CD, the First Screen you come to you choose to Delete the old Partitions. That wipes out all the old Data. Then next Screen A new Partition is created, and then the Format option comes up, when that completes the Install Starts. I have installed XP on lots of crappy old Hardware, and guess I would say I recommend 512 Megs of Ram, and a 1 GHZ cpu. Any less you wind up with a slow frustrating to use PC, though if you just do email, and Web surf it may be usable. You can find lots of Web sites on the topic.
