Thanks, I had run across Driver Sweeper, and will try it on an NT-based system next
time I need to do it on one. Regarding "Nasty", whatever the first reference was
I saw for that one, it didn't inspire confidence, and I am already pretty close to
erasing the past couple of months' work and starting from a totally empty drive,
without ANY old fragments of drivers hidden anywhere.
The fact is, I owned a "VIP" branded mainboard with my Pentium 233 MMX machine, that
had a Via "MVP3" chipset back when P-IIs were all still very new (I also had a P2/
400 machine at the same time). That one was trouble- free, while the P2/400 was
problematic the entire time I owned it. For Retro-Gaming use, I recently tried an
Asus P5A (ALI Aladdin5 chipset), and a Soyo with the MVP chipset.
The Asus was about as close to that 440-BX Intel trash as I've seen since those bad
old days. Off and on for a couple of months, maybe longer, I tried different things
just to get basic functionality, and it fought me every step.
