As you've intimated, app writers are dropping support for Win9x left and right. Mint 7 is based on Ubuntu 9.04 from April of 2009. We're expecting Mint 8 (based on Ubuntu 9.10) by the end of the year. This Free(dom) Software is also gratis. [1] ...and especially when pseudo-security software won't install... Note: While many deride the notion of a software firewall, I think that filtering egress traffic is a pretty good idea (hardware firewalls can't do that). Of course, when that software is on the same box it's protecting and that box is running Windoze, enthusiasm wanes a bit.
