On a technical note...if he reports ping responses from his loopback and IP address
there isn't likely anything wrong with his NIC. Where I live the ADSL guys have
you statically assign IP address, Default Gateway, Subnet Mask, and DNS....the cablemodem
people don't. Every cable connected PC I've worked on here has Dynamic assignation
of all the above. Perhaps his setup is also Statically assigned.......I didn't see
it mentioned at all. I would check on that and see if it is indeed static and if
so, it's likely an incorrect setting.
