Anybody have a Zune?

In my efforts to show M$'s (continued) incompetence,
witness the M$ developers who didn't realize that 2008 was a leap year
and issued a firmware update that crippled the portable media players
of the folks who don't realize that you
NEVER ACCEPT MICROS~1 UPDATES
UNTIL OTHER POOR DUMB SUCKERS HAVE VETTED THEM.[1]

[1] It's obvious that the M$ guys don't eat
their own dog food.

I saw a story about the leap year bug on the 30 gig Zune last night on the News.
I have been traveling the last couple weeks, and the 80 gig Zune I own has had no
problems. The Zune overall is the best mp3 player I have had, and it is about 14
months old now. I have gone thru 4 other mp3 players, including two iPods. One Battery
died after about 9 months, one had the the Display die, but the music still played,
you just couldn't see what the selection was.

That's the one.
Word is, folks didn't suffer if they hadn't done the firmware update
or if they had their clocks pushed ahead.

...and, unlike an iPhone,
you don't have to send it back to the factory to get the battery replaced.
Every once in a while M$ isn't completely bone-headed
(kinda like a broken clock that's right twice a day).

The news story about the 30 gig Zune said if the Battery was Drained, and then recharged
the Zune would reboot fine. Rebooting seems to fix many Windows problems.:)
I
noticed a Firmware update was available for My 80 gig Zune before I went on Vacation.
I hate doing that stuff, but gritted My teeth wondering if the Zune would work when
done. MS wouldn't seem to let Me add some new songs until I did the Firmware update.

Despite the headline, they didn't actually "fix" anything.
They just waited till after Dec. 31 had passed
and declared the bug to no longer be a problem.
Meanwhile, the customers were without use of their gear for 24 hours.
You'd think a company that has been in the software business for >25 years
would have a checklist of things for QC to verify before things were rolled out.

I plugged My Zune into the PC today a add a few new tunes, and both the Zune Software,
and another Zune Firmware update happened before I could start. My guess is the Zunes
that were affected will be updated also. I think the Users who were without their
gear for 24 hours survived.
I lost use of My new Work Truck for 10 days to
a Warranty Problem (Truck stuck in a 4 Wheel Drives low gear), now that was a pain,
but My business also survived.:)
