Run win98SE v 4.10.2222 on Asrock 2003 M Board. I've tried various linux versions which left a host of ext3 and swap files I cannot remove from windoze 98SE. Does anybody know how to remove those files? I've neen vainly trying for a month and been all over internet searching Adrian

Well, since M$ OSes only understand M$ filesystems
(with 9x being especially lame there), you sure can't use Windoze to do much.

(Actually, *any* decent LiveCD will contain the Gnome Partition Editor.)

...and that ASSuMEs you've already backed up any data there.

You are REALLY bad at using Google.

"How to Remove Linux and Install Windows on Your Computer"
8-( Not what was requested.

1) From the OP's description, Windoze has **always** been installed.

2) From the OP's description, all that is desired
is to recover the space for use by Windoze (as part of C:, it appears).

3) M$ produces crap disk tools; anything they have is DESTRUCTIVE in nature.
Any instructions from M$ will reflect that.
3a) The M$ page doesn't say how to fold the space back into an M$ filesystem.
(It's not possible using M$'s crap tools nor using *any* FDISK.)

4) Any useful disk tools for the Windoze ecosystem are payware.

5) Points 3 and 4 do not include GNU tools (which generally use a Linux kernel);
GNU tools are quite flexible (supporting dozens of filesystems)
and are all gratis and libre.
The term "partition editor" figures prominently here.

...and it's a mystery why most payware products even exist any longer.

Read the post again. But first, get past the idea that everyone wants Linux just
because you do.

remove from windoze 98SE. Does anybody know how to remove those files? I've neen

The free version of Killdisk allows you to selectively erase individual partitions.
You should be able to erase the Linux partitions.

You then need to resize your Windows partition to take up the free space. There is
a freeware program which is supposed to do this though I have never used it.

http://www.zeleps.com/

If you have a payware program like Partition Magic it would be easier to use.

I not only understand the question, I gave a solution to the ACTUAL question asked
(echoed in a similar response by Steve).

I don't know what kernel is used by the zeleps tool suggested by Arminius,
but since it is called "freeware" (NOT Free Software), it's a safe bet it's not GPL'd
--but that tool is also a solution to the actual question asked.[1]

...and what is truly sad is that in your Microsoft-centric world
you don't even understand the question well enough to give a USEFUL answer
*AND* you THINK you understand it well enough to criticize CORRECT answers.

[1] I've been curious for some time if a FREE non-Linux-based tool existed
and that one is the first I've seen that will resize/edit partitions.
In this respect, Ranish Partition Manager and Cute Partition Manager are posers
and 7Tools is a crippleware demo.

There is a 4th that doesn't appear to be bootable
and is spec'd to work only under NT.
(How it works on a mounted partition, I don't know
--so, I'm guessing that is a fraud as well.)

Hello. try gparted or ranish, both free and have worked very well for me over the years.

Partition Logic

Posted by Ed (659 messages posted)

Partition Logic is a free hard disk partitioning and data management tool. It can create, delete, format, defragment, resize, and move partitions and modify their attributes. It can copy entire hard disks from one to another.

Partition Logic is free software, based on the Visopsys operating system. It boots from a CD or floppy disk and runs as a standalone system, independent of your regular operating system. It is intended to become a free alternative to such commercial programs as Partition Magic, Drive Image, and Norton.

The bootable floppy disk IMG file includes a minimal distribution, and should be written directly to a 1.44 Mb floppy disk. Windows users will need a program such as RawWrite (203K) to create the disk. Linux/UNIX users can use the built-in 'cat' or 'dd' commands.

Cool! This is EXACTLY what I have been expecting to see for some time:
an expansion of the genera in the ecosystem.
...and in this case Free Software should be capitalized
--to distinguish Open Source Software gems from freeware (GPL in this case):

Bingo! Gratis AND Libre!
