Can you get into the Start Menu and System Tools to run SCANDISK on the disk drive? If necessary you can Start - RUN - ScanDisk to start it.

Run it in Standard Mode once, and then in Thorough mode long enough to verify you don't have disk drive problems. Then reboot and see if could fix any of the problems.

Next try booting into Safe Mode once and seeing if My Computer works. Then back into normal mode.

Next try going to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs Icon and see if you can select the "Microsoft Internet Explorer ... and Internet Tools" line, click "Remove" button and then the "Repair Internet Explorer" option. This will repair most of the common shared modules used by both Internet Explorer and Explorer. Then Reboot.
