Computer doesn't respond at "Entire Network"

I recently tried to set up a home network between three computers, one desktop and 2 laptops. The main computer, desktop has WinMe, and the laps have Win98 and XP. On the desktop, when I go into My Network Places, and then double click on "My Entire Network" the computer becomes unresponsive. I usually have to ctrl-alt-delete at that point to clear the log-jam but that doesn't get me to checking my entire network as I had wished. Can someone offer some suggestions to clear this problem up? Thanks
