To which is replied that's a bunch of nonsense... the fact that MS doesn't provide
updates any longer didn't have one thing to do with your problem. ISP's always try
to convince people they need to upgrade to a newer operating system. It would probably
save them tech support calls and hassles. They're full of it sometimes.
Of course, it wasn't a problem with your computer. It was operator (Robert) error,
when you tried to remove all that junk. :) Something went haywire.
Anyhow, Steve has a ME system and never installs updates. He gets along fine, but
he's an experienced user. However, you'd be doing yourself a big favor, if you Stop
using Internet Explorer as your main browser. It's extremely vulnerable to malware
infections. Give Opera or Firefox a try.
