Thanks for your reply, CK. Since I'm building the new system, sounds like I just
need to make sure the mobo supports WinMe and that Me drivers are available for all
the peripherals. Thanks for the heads up on that.
As for backing up, I use Acronis True Image and have had good success when I cloned
my original HD onto the current one when the old drive began to act up.
I also plan to install Me on the new system (on a clean drive) before attempting
to do the repair install. I can also remove some uncertainty by upgrading my OEM
WinMe while the drive is still installed on my original system. That way, when I
do the repair install on the new system, I'll be starting from the retail version.
Do these steps seem reasonable?

Not sure I follow you. Are you saying a repair install will check the DLL version/date
and therefore will not overwrite a more recent DLL?
