I wasn't implying you were a computer idiot at all, Kelly. I'm sure you're not.
I would assume, if they say you don't need special drivers... you shouldn't need
them then! Since you had/have ? other problems as well, I wonder if a repair/reinstall
of ME would be a good idea?
Usually PC mfgrs. put compressed CAB install files on the drive in a directory. It
varies, but have a look at Jack Gulley's instr. on reinstalling ME from CABS.....
Reinstall ME from CABS
Only thing about that is, if you had updates installed, they'd all need to be reinstalled.
I may be able to find a link to a ME updates download page, since it's no longer
supported.
One other thing you might do first, is to boot into Safe mode. Then go into Device
Manager, and remove any/all instances of that device you said has an exclamation
point. Many times Windows will continue to reinstall drivers for a device, and you
end up with several instances of one device. (not good) Safe mode will show if there
are others installed.
In fact, you can remove any that show duplicates or exclamation points, because
that can cause problems in itself. When you reboot Windows will detect new hardware
and reinstall drivers. Let me know what you find out.
