What size HDD is this?? Also note that scandisk may or may not complete successfully
in safe mode. Even then, there may be errors or data corruption on the drive even
if it completes successfully. If in safe mode, neither scandisk or defrag complete
successfully, there is probably file structure damage and/or a failing hard drive.
If you know the brand of HDD, go to that manufacturers website to see if they have
a diagnostics utility to check the drive. Most do but some don't.
The other issue is that depending on the size of the drive, scandisk and defrag may
not work properly and can corrupt the drive when used. That's why we need to know
the total size of the drive..
