XP would run terrible on your Computer, Vista wouldn't even Install on it. You can put together a pretty good 2GHZ PC with 512 megs ram, Huge Hard Drive, new Case that will run great with XP for about 250 bucks, with new parts scrounged from online retailers, these would be new but outdated parts that are still lying around on shelves.

I just did it for a friend whose old PC took a Lightening strike. All I salvaged from his old PC was the CD rom, and Floppy Drive, even his mouse, and Keyboard would not work with the newer motherboards.

In your case since you like to game, I would suggest a decent Video Card, maybe 1 Gig of Ram instead since it is half the gaming experience, and that would drive up the price 150 bucks or so.Vista sucks, and would run slow even on this type hardware.
