If you have the same amount of installed RAM from the factory (64 meg) then XP will
have problems running. It will be so slow, you will be waiting more than doing anything.
Recommended amount of RAM for XP in this forum is a minimum of 256 and preferably
512 meg or more to run even acceptibly, and the faster the processor the better.
Yours is the old Celeron, another potential problem that will slow the system down.
Your machine can only be increased to 256 meg of RAM but it has the old 66 meg buss
speed so finding the old SDRAM (it will be used and may/will be expensive) may be
almost impossible or more expensive than it will be worth. Overall, XP will not
work well at all on your machine or at all, depending on whether XP will have the
drivers, as Emachines will not have them.
None of the system utilities by third parties, burning software, AV (antivirus) programs
released for only Win 9X will work. They would all need to be updated versions that
support XP but the minimum hardware requirements on them now may be more than what
your machine has.
If you have an upgrade/full install XP disc, then you will find an upgrade advisor
that will check your system and software and tell you what issues it finds, or you
can do it online from MS:
