Was trying to repair Microsoft Word and was re-installing when it took an error which I didn't catch. Tried to re-start and select Safe Mode but will not come up on Safe Mode. All I get is the following: The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\Windows\System\VMM32.VXD Type the name of the Windows Loader (e.g., C:\Windows\System\VMM32.VXD C>_ Tried a boot disk and ran Scandisk and Scanreg /Restore They ran and restore said it had restored to a earlier date which had no errors. I have exhausted my knowledge and will appreciate any help. Was trying to save data but may have to re-install ME. Thanks very much

Yo man!, it's not necessary to do all again for just one file... just start the pc using a boot disk, then go to c:\windows\ and the folder where vmm32 is, then check out for the file size, then ask a friend (with a floppy in the hand) to retrieve his/her vmm32 file, take a copy from your pal, then put that copy to overwrite the corrupted vmm32 in your system and see if that works, also, that problem has NOTHING to do with the windows registry, so you lost your time restoring good backups... I'm asking you for the file size since a corrupted file usually has a different size than a non-corrupted one, so compare your file with your friend's and see if there's any difference...

You can't get a copy of the VMM32.VXD file from another system. It's custom created, when you install Windows.
