If the above doesn't work, you may be missing the files to make scanreg work, or
you have some other problems. Make sure you have the correct boot disk and are changing
the directory to the proper directory on the C drive to find the files needed to
execute the command. The floppy is only to boot the machine to the DOS prompt, it
won't have the files and backup registry needed to complete the command. Those are
on your C drive.. If they are corrupted, you have bigger problems.
You can find a correct boot disk at www.bootdisk.com if you need one.

Yes the Autoexec.bat on the floppy isn't setting the Path to C:\Windows\Command you
can add this line to your Autoexec.bat file
Path=C:\Windows\Command
Or you could type in C:\Windows\Command\Scanreg /restore at the A:\ prompt.

only got the A:\ prompt again.

Thanks to everyone for your kindhearted assistance. The problem was resolved!
The windows directory name had been changed. As soon as I discovered the correct
one all of your advice worked. God Bless!

Well if you tried C:\Windows\Command\Scanreg /restore at the A:\ prompt you
would still get the same error "Bad Command or Filename" if it can't find the file.
Now the Windows folder is something else then that explains it.
Glad we've sorted the problem Dell.

Well as I've said it depends if the path is set.
As the A:\ prompt just type in cd c:\windows\command and enter, thats providing
windows in installed on C: drive. Then just type in scanreg you can forget the restore
bit that will be shown inside when its running. If you get an error incorrect filename
or command then scanreg.exe isn't in that folder where it should be.
