Internet Explorer Never Dials

I am using WinME and IE 5.5. IE always reverts back to "Never Dial a Connection".

In IE, under Tools : Internet Options : Connections tab I have selected "Always dial
my default connection". However, after restarting my computer and starting IE, it
does not dial. If I look at the settings, it has returned to "Never Dial a Connection".
Even if I select "Dial whenever a network connection is not present, after rebooting,
it always goes back to "Never Dial a Connection". I simply cannot get IE to do anything
but revert back to "Never Dial a Connection" after I reboot.

Any suggestions on how to force IE to remember my settings?

SYMPTOMS When you change the options under Connection settings in the Internet Options window, from Never dial a connection to Always dial my default connection, the setting seems to change, but when you try to access the Internet, or to view the actual connection setting, it reverts back to Never dial a connection. CAUSE This issue occurs when you have installed Internet Call Waiting for PC by Bell Canada. RESOLUTION To use the System Configuration Utility tool to disable the Internet Call Waiting item (which is located on the Startup tab), follow these steps: Click Start, click Run, type MSConfig, and then click OK.

On the Startup tab, click to unselect the Internet Call Display option. Click Apply, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes. MORE INFORMATION For more information on Internet Call Display, refer to one of the following Bell Canada Web sites: http://www.bell.ca/en/home.asp http://www.bell.ca/en/minisite/products/icd2/app_frameset.asp

I have the same problem - computer keeps resetting to "never dial a conneciton" all by itself. But none of the tips I see here seems to apply to me. The computer in question is used only as my dial-up gateway to the Internet. It has no background programs running, it has no cookies or adware or any of that stuff - it's a very clean installation. All it's doing is running Internet Connection Sharing (under Windows Millennium), and serving my other computers via the LAN. Most of the time everything's fine and it automatically dials out when one of my computers wants to get on the Internet. But every so often it fails to do so and I find that it's because the settings have reverted to "never dial a connection". Nobody else ever uses this particular computer, so I'm sure it's doing this by itself. Any ideas? Thanks!
