I can possibly see an issue there that might be related to available RAM or swap,
but the largest pictures I've been dealing with personally are barely over 300MB
in size, which to me is fairly minute in today's scale.
IrfanView still might have some problems with files in the ±2.0GB range because it's
only a 32-bit application and will have the usual limitations with address space.
