I'm scanning a few thousand of my old color negatives, and when I set the scanner to 2400 dpi and view them in Photo Gallery, I can see the thumbnail but when I try and open the picture I get the "can't open this picture" notification. The smaller images work fine. To confirm it's a limitation with the application, I opened the same scanned photos in Adobe Photo Elements and I can see them perfectly. I'm running Vista Home Premium on a brand new HP desktop. It's appalling that Microsoft can't even include a decent photo viewer. God I wish I had bought a Mac.
