You are right, if all's well inj Safe Mode then its 99.9% certain it is a software
problem.
The Event Viewer is meant to pick up problems like this, and if its showing nothing
then it is likely to be an application (for what that's worth), ie Windows sees nothing
amiss.
Sadly I am not aware of any easier way to daignose this than by turning off everything
in your startup folder and msconfig and then turning them back on one-by-one to find
the culprit.
You can make this task slightly less tedious by using Winpatrol, and someone cunning
observed a while ago that turning on half, then half the remainder etc speeds up
the process somewhat.
