Check 3 things. First...make sure you have the latest BIOS revision from Dell (http://support.dell.com\filelib). Second..make sure you are using ACPI Power management. Third...Make sure all your drivers are ACPI compliant (get the latest ones for XP also from Dell). If any drivers are not ACPI compliant, Standby and Hibernate functions may not work properly. Also...do you have any USB devices connected or Palm Pilot software installed. These use an active connection (constantly polling ports) and will cause problems.
