You can go to a DOS shell (it's not really DOS, but DOS is typically not a good thing) by using from "Start", selected "Run" and then type "cmd". You can add "cmd" to your start menu. I have tried a couple of old games that were DOS based, and to be honest, they worked fine under XP. If you have a large DOS collection, most of your stuff should work fine under XP, that's one of the reasons it's taken Microsoft so long to finally get rid of DOS underneath Windows.
