If you have a newer keyboard (lots of "quickLaunch" buttons), try to borrow a cheap, 
standard keyboard. One of those buttons may be set for standby and stuck. Media Center 
PC's also have a standby button on the remote so remove the batteries.

If that does not work, I would next try replacing the Advanced Power Management (APM) 
drivers. You MUST have an xp setup disc for this!

Begin by creating a restore point. You might also want to back up your registry using 
ERUNT:

The following article does not discuss your situation, so under the RESOLUTION heading, 
stop at step 6. This should fully restore any corrupt APM drivers.
