CD-ROM (CD-RW) only reads/plays audio (music) CDs

I've got a Samsung CD-RW drive (SW-252S) that detects all CD's as audio. Data CD's
are displayed as one track audio discs in Explorer. And Device Manager lists the
drive misspelled as SAMSUJG C@-R/RW SS-252S.
Initally I thought there might be some kind of virus on the machine the drive was
in so I put it in another computer (I know is clean) and got the same results. Due
to the mispelling and garbage in the device's text id tag I thought the drive's firmware
was corrupt. I downloaded the latest firmware and flasher from Samsung. Their flash
utility said I had the wrong firmare for the drive specified (thanks to the misspelled
device id). However, I was able to flash the drive with mtkflash through DOS. But
that didn't help and the drive is still having the same problems.
Any info/suggestions greatly appriciated. Thanks.
