I appreciate that it is going to be difficult, due to the machine being so slow at
the moment. Bring up the Task Manager using Ctrl-Alt-Del and look for processes that
are using a lot of CPU time - especially look out for windows.exe - and "end" those
procesess, but don't do that to any process called svchost.exe. If they refuse to
be ended (access denied) you can download my "Task
Manager as a System Service" program and install that to use instead. The installation
puts an icon on your desktop for Task Manager and you will have to reboot before
it will work, but it can be used to kill-off any process you choose. There is also
an uninstall routine for the utility here.
This is a powerful utility which only works under Windows XP and you must
be logged on to a privileged user acount to install it. Hope this helps. Cheers.
