Just plugging the mouse into a different USB port should cause a reinstall.. However, in case you haven't noticed, it takes a minute or so for the mouse to start working again after plugging it into a different USB port, while XP installs the drivers. Swap some USB plugs around and see if the problem persists. Maybe it is a bad jack.
