Starting a new tree branch here for clarity. To summarize, the css-dvp.sys driver
has been eliminated but the system is still crashing. Event logs show 10 errors from
nvatabus - device slot returned an invalid status value - being logged at
boot time, then after a few minutes the system crashes with a bugcheck 1000000a fairly
consistently. This bugcheck is usually caused by a faulty device driver, or something
closely related.
I had thought originally that the crashes were due to bad
RAM or other hardware, but am no longer convinced of that because the crashing seems
rather too consistent. Searching for information regarding the nvatabus errors showed
that it is rare but not unknown. Nvatabus is a driver for SATA/IDE devices on Nvidia
NForce chipsets. In every case that I found, updating this driver did not effect
a cure! There were a number of cases where simply disconnecting the CD/DVD drive
made the errors go away, which seems perfectly logical, plus the brand name Plextor
kept cropping up. So now I wonder if disconnecting the CD/DVD drive from the IDE
cable will have the same result in this case? Also I wonder if the CD/DVD drive is
a Plextor? Michele, please try this out and then have another look at the event logs.
Report back what you find. Cheers. Spexx.
