Michele.
It really doesn't matter, the point of the scan is to get the Part#, Price and guaranteed
compatibility of replacement DIMMS to correct the mismatch, and possible upgrade
for better System performance. 256mb is adequate, barely, for your system.
With 2GB memory capacity you have lots of combinations that will work, 2- 1GB Dimms;
1- 1GB Dimm; 2- 512GB DIMMs. etc. etc.
In any case you are better off with a matched Pair of Dimms, and NOW seems like a
good time to solve some problems and Upgrade RAM at the same time
Yes they are both working, but can they work together properly, being somewhat different?
NO!
The Fan was probably not a "SHORT", more like an "OPEN ", or itermittant circuit.
If it were a SHORT, there, would be Burn marks on the contacts and probably an instant
shutdown of the Computer, with possible loss of the Power Supply.
If it's working now the Power Supply is most likely OK.
SCAN!
