If it were me, I would install the 1GB Module in slot 0 and leave everything else
out till you can get a matching 1GB Module. I seriously doubt that either the 256mb,
or the 128mb DIMMS will be FULLY compatible with the 1GB. (SERIOUSLY)
Don't get greedy Girl, the 1st 1GB DIMM will give you more than twice the current
Memory. You can always add it later, now that you have the Part# and cost.
AND you may, and probably will, find that the 2nd 1GB DIMM is overkill, unless you
are running Memory intensive Applications. I didn't see anything installed on your
System that indicates the need for that much RAM.
Run the 1st 1GB for a while to see if you really need #2. It is not uncommon for
MORE memory to cause as many problems as not enough. More is NOT always better.
I also need to remind you that the RAM upgrade may not fix all your issues. It just
gets rid of one obvious problem, but could reveal other issues. Not a Panacea, so
don't expect too much.
I, personally, don't want to get into the Registry/startup issue at this time. I
think you'd be better off waiting till you have Replaced the RAM and run you system
for a while before opening that can of worms. Doing too much, too fast, usually leads
to problems.
That's not to mention that his thread has become an unmanageable MONSTER.
Rather than focus on start up, I would look at the Programs you have installed to
see if there are any that you do not use or need.
If any fit the "do not use" category, get rid of them, probably the same for "do
not need". I'm only talking about Software that you have installed but don't need/use.
This alone should clear some of the CRAP in startup.
BTW, You're more than welcome for the assistance. I usually learn more than I give
by doing this.
Gotta go & get caught up with things here. Let me know how the Memory upgrade goes.
BW.
