The Webstar is a DSL modem, is that right? And you have it connected to the WAN
port of the Belkin router, is that right?
Have you ever been able to connect to the net using this equipment previously, in
this location?

How do you know? Do you have other computers that are working, on the internet,
through this router and this modem right now?

Won't recognize what? The network controller? The modem? The router? What do
you mean, "recognize"? When you plug the computer's ethernet port into one of the
LAN ports on the router, or into the modem, does the computer do ANYTHING? Can it
tell that it's connected to something? How do you know? What, exactly, is it
doing that tells you this?

What do you mean "recognized correctly"?

What do you mean "would not play ball"? Did you get an error message? What did
it say?

What's that mean "comes up as disconnected"?
What do you get when you do ipconfig /all? What do you get when you ping a numerical
IP address? What do you get when you ping your router? Provide some actual information,
and maybe someone will be able to help.
