The error that you are getting indicates a problem with the CD or the CD drive. The CD might be a bit scratched or damaged in some other way. Forget all the stuff about editing the registry! Concentrate on getting the important files/pictures etc backed up and then worry about reinstalling the operating system. The easiest way to do this would be to connect the disk up as a slave on another PC, but it would be rather hard for you to do that from the UK if the machine is in Canada. Suggest that she take the machine to a local repairer who will be able to provide better support. Cheers. Spexx.
