US Airways virus infected email

Hi,
A friend borrowed my pc a few days ago to check emails and opened an email which
purported to be from US airways. Immediately AVG flagged up the threat, but too late
as from then on my system was awash with Trojans with names such as Dropper.BravixA
and Agent.AADP.
I used AVG in safe mode to scan and clean the system, which it appears to have done
succesfully, however now when I boot up whether in normal or safe mode I just get
a blank screen instead of my desktop. I can open task manager but that's all I can
do.
I'm assuming that if I can do a system restore that predates the infection whatever
has been corrupted may be reinstated, but I don't know if I can run a system restore
from task manager.
