System restore rarely fixes any significant problem on a PC. It seems to be the first thing everyone turns to before diagnosing what the problem really is. I've never used system restore to fix a problem. Others may stand by it, but I have no use for it. If you want a reliable back up method, look at Acronis True Image. It can make reliable images and backups of your hard drive to a recovery partition. Ofcourse, a "recovery partition" is only as safe as the hard drive. If you want to really protect your data you need to have it backed up off-site somewhere.
