This is more a Microsoft problem more that a hardware problem. Everybody wants
to blame the hardware people for this. MM$ (Microsoft) sold us the idea that USB
will do everything better, and gain with no pain! NOT!
Here is a remark from that site give in the post above.

Notice how they blame the hardware maker!
In the M$ KB (Knowledge Base) site you find that even good HDD with USB interface
will fail as a network device because of an oversight on the part of MS. The ATAPI
to USB thing was crippled to begin with by MS, the maker of the Windows OS! Maybe
they will fix it in Vista? After all these years! I don't think so!
