An all SATA connection is the best, but it's possible to use a USB connected external
burner. I doubt his laptop has a SATA port. I have a Plumax USB enclosure for a
DVD burner that works very well. Unfortunately the one I have is no longer available
on the internet.
cdfreaks.com has a big external enclosures thread. That's where I learned about
the one I have. I haven't looked at the thread in a couple of years. It's titled
strangely enough "The big external enclosures thread". I'm sure many of the posts
at the beginning are out of date.
