Yes. Some free tools require a working system.
It is a whole lot easier if you have another hard drive, even an old 5GB, to hold
a clean install of XP, The clean system on a wimp drive can be used in a desktop
to fix up the infected system.That is safer. A partition manager, even a good one,
can mangle a damaged system.
