Wow.. This is a brain twister. I love a challenge like this. Here is what I have deduced from your information: Your DNS settings are correct. NSLOOKUP is able to correctly resolve domain names into IP addresses, so DNS is working correctly. Internet Explorer can view webpages by IP, but not by domain name, so DNS does not work for IE. Ping also can not resolve domain names into IP addresses. This appears to be a case of programs be selectively blocked by an internet security program. However, it leaves a little confusion as to why IE can access webpages via IP address and not by domain name. I do see that you have Norton internet security, and I don't know if I mentioned this but it is the source of endless problems. There isn't another software application that I rate any lower than Norton. My explanation is this, Norton is malfunctioning, and is blocking internet access based on program name. It is allowing IE to partially communicate with the internet, but it is blocking its ability to communicate on port 53 for DNS. The same holds true for ping. I haven't looked close enough at your boot log yet to see if there are any rootkits or anything, but with a quick look I didn't see anything that stood out. My suggestion, at least for now, is to completely remove Norton internet security from your computer and see if this resolves the issue. If it doesn't, please do not reinstall Norton just yet, as it never completely removes itself and we may have to do more. I'm going to look at your boot log further to see if anything else could be blocking the connection, but so far, Norton stands out as the culprit. There is a small chance of a program in your LSP chain that is blocking it also. Download and run a program called LSP fix, and post back with what files are listed in your LSP chain. Also tell me if it reports any problems with the LSP chain. Don't make any changes with the program. http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
