Thank you for your reply. The programme is named addit. It is not a dos application.
I had installed it. When I discovered it would no longer work I went to add/remove
but it was not listed. Looking in the folder of this programme the read me text said
it does not alter any of windows setup. To uninstall just delete the files in the
directory to which I installed it.
I have not attempted to run it in safe mode. Have ran Spybot. What is interesting
is that the following two people who posted responses have exactly the same problem
and are using Comodo as I am myself. Like them I had an update over the weekend so
it makes me think that Comodo is the culprit. I guess the only way I am going to
find out is by removing Comodo and see what happens.
