I have however solved the issue. I noted that when the laptop was undocked, the display was correct. When docked, and using the monitor, it was not. Then I noticed that when docked, the notebook lcd was also lit. Toggling 'fn' 'F8' you toggle between notebook, monitor, or both, and when toggled to only monitor, the display corrected itself. Who knows why it was incorrect when toggled to both, in my mind this should not be, but however... Thanks for your help.
