First, thank you to everyone who commented. Next, for the benefit of anyone else
struggling with this, a few comments;
1) I have two drives in my computer, C: and E:. Both of them had many instances
of both Norton and Symantec stuff. In the past, when I tried to delete stuff in
"Safe Mode", the stuff didn't disappear when I clicked on it, and hit "Delete", so
I gave up immediately. After reading one of the posts, I just sat down and deleted
everything on both drives whether it looked like it took or not (There were a LOT
of them, and a lot of duplicates).
2) I did this a couple of times, switching back and forth between "Safe Mode" and
a regular log on, checking for signs and results at the same time. Finally, I didn't
find any more listings for Norton or Symantec. Still, my AVAST came up with the
"Norton AntiVirus is running".
Finally, I tried one of the downloads listed to get me to "Rnav2003.exe" and followed
the directions. It only took a number of seconds to tell me "Norton" was removed,
so I restarted my PC and did NOT get a warning from AVAST. So far, I'm very happy
and VERY, VERY GRATEFUL.
Next, I'm assuming that whatever Avast was finding is gone, and it will work now.
This last restart did not get an error message.
That was for the other people who are having trouble uninstalling; now, for my benefit
again;
I DO want to know if there is something I can or should do about all the Symantec
and Norton stuff that is in my registry?
Again, Thank you VERY, VERY much!!
