Unable to Connect to DHCP Server

I have done my research and found numerous posts relating to my issue, however, after
following all suggestions i cannot resolve my exact problem.
This morning i came to work and realized two of my three desktop computers were not
connected to the internet. I have a Dlink router (Dir-655) brand new and installed
by a computer nerd company. I have some knowledge of how this works and how to troubleshoot.
For instance i have released and renewed the IP's on both desktops (not connected
to internet) with no luck. I still get the 169.xxx. With the help of the nerds company
we have reset the Dlink router to factory settings and still no luck. I can see
when i log into the dlink settings online that both computers have been assigned
their own IP addresses, however, they are not connecting to the internet.
The two computers are HP Compaq dx2450 Microtower (identical) and recent purchases.
We are using Windows XP and automatic updates is checked.
Today i was also able to install the most recent dlink Dir-655 firmware update with
no change in the problem.
Your help is greatly appreciated. im at a loss of what to do and its somewhat frustrating
that i know what the problem is (not connecting to dhcp server) but i dont know how
to fix it.
