I am having the same problem with that error message, and being unable to logon my
new Windows XP install, by any means. Tried Safe Mode, tried old-school-style-logon-as-administrator
trick, tried safe mode. All resulted in the (pretty useless) statement about domain
controller n whatnot. Most googling only brings up stuff useless to me, about logging
in to networks on Win2k.
Background info: I am on a recently reformatted hard drive. My CD drive does not
function, so .... well... long story short, I used a specific utility to make my
flash drive operate as Windows setup (using WinXP SP3 iso as base). A lot of work
to avoid just buying a new CD drive and using my own legitimate Windows CD, but I
digress. On account of method used, I had to fix the boot.ini afterwards so it tried
to boot off the right place, but I digress
Currently am stuck for a solution that doesn't involve being able to logon u.u
