"System" CPU usage 100% while printing

Whenever I print a document from my accounting program to my Oki printer, it causes the CPU usage to go to 100%-- "System" according to task manager. When the job finishes, it drops back to 3 or 4%. Also, if I hit the pause button on the printer itself, the usage goes back to normal until I unpause it. This didn't happen with my old computer w/ the same printer, driver, OS, and accounting software, nor does it happen with any other program. I did try driver and software updates. Any suggestions??
