I have Windows XP and anymore whenever I try to reboot or shutdown, my computer freezes at the "saving settings" screen and I have to reset it. Also recently whenever I hibernate my laptop and turn it on, the toolbar freezes every-once-in-a-while any ideas because I am stumped?

For the shutdown problem:
Windows Shutdown Troubleshooter

For the hibernate problem, disable hibernate and standby. Both are well known to
cause many problems.

I tried that but the directions they give don't exist. Notice there is no "other options" tab in No. 2 nor is there an operating systems list stated in No. 7. To install only the "Restarting Windows XP" update, follow these steps: 1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com 2. Under Other Options, click Personalize Windows Update. 3. Select the Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under See Also check box. 4. Click Save Settings. 5. Under See Also, click Windows Update Catalog. 6. Click Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems. 7. In the Operating system list, click Windows XP RTM, select your language, and then click Search. 8. Click Recommended Updates. 9. In the Recommended Updates list, locate the Restarting Windows XP update, and then click Add. 10. Click Go to download basket. 11. In the Type or browse to the download location of your choice box, type the full path of the folder where you want to save the update, or click Browse to locate the folder. 12. Click Download Now. 13. Click Accept to accept the License Agreement and to complete the installation of the Restarting Windows XP update.
