Pop-up window blocked

Hi all, I have re-installed a fresh copy of Windows XP on my PC, and installed SP2 afterwards. I am also running Mcafee Anti-virus (trial version), Spyware Doctor, and Linksys Broadband router with firewall capabilities. My problem is, when I am using Internet Explorer 6, in any web page with a link which opens a new IE window, when I click the link, I am unable to get the new window, and in the bottom left corner, it just said "pop-up window blocked". Even if I right-click and choose "Open in New Window", the same thing happened. For a link which links to another page in the same window, there is no problem. I have tried all of the following and the problem still happens: Turn off Pop-up Blocker in IE-> Tools; Disable Mcafee; Close Spyware Doctor; Close Windows XP firewall. I think the pop-up blocker in IE is to turn off those advertising pop-ups ... but why it prohibits me from linking to another page in a new window? I have also set the custom security level in IE Internet Options ... same problem ... Can anyone help? With lots of thanks, Del Piero

It doesn't help by pressing CTRL + clicking the link. I dun think it's unreasonable to try closing the firewall. Some firewall products build in the adware and spyware functionalities into the firewall itself, instead of a separate product. Anyway, thx, Del Piero

Do you use the Google toolbar? You said you changed the Security level to Custom,
but have you gone through the list and checked out the settings?

Check this article out. There's nothing specific about a popup message, so I don't
know whether it'll help.

Hi...I had the exact same problem and found out it was not the anti virus or Windows XP pop up blocker but the Yahoo toolbar pop up blocker. Evidently a great number of toolbars have their own blockers, (AOL, Earthlink, etc). Click on the pop blocker link on the Yahoo toolbar (I didn't even know it had one) and turn off. It fixed my problem.

Yes it is the anti-spyware/toolbar which is doing the blocking. Last time I uninstalled by anti-spyware and the blocking was gone.

Joe, brilliant!!!!!!!!!Several websites block windows I wanted. The 'holding CTRL down' has worked a treat. NO more frustration. Thanks.....David
