Codecs in WMP

I've had 3 people ask me about codecs in the past couple of days. Saying that WMP
can not download correct codec - EVEN tho it is already installed and has been working
fine. My father is in town staying here and I've been playing a lot of movies on
front room computer that has a channel out to TV/stereo. Today it was fine, but
minutes ago I loaded some movies and NOW I'm experiencing this codec problem with
movies that have previously played perfectly. Does anyone know of some new bug that
has suddenly appeared regarding WMP and codecs? If I remember correctly (and the
3 people telling me knew what they were talking about on their movies) this has occured
with DiVX 3x and Xvid once....

Thing is, I don't allow auto-updates on any of my computers. Unless WMP has another
built in that I missed... Will check that on this system as soon as I drop connection
while I open it (just to be sure)..

Guess you can't turn it off in V10... can only set it to update auto on Day, Week,
Month and mine is already set to month.
I'll agree, probably something new and incredibly STUPID in an auto-update.

I have had a lot better luck using K-Lite codec pack than others although they have
gotten corrupt a couple of times and I had to uninstall and reinstall to get them
working.
