DVD-RW video recorder recording not recognized by computer dvd drive

I have tried numerous programs including windows explorer. Does just fine on son's
win2000 with the same programs (explorer, nero, wmp, dvd decrypter) and the dvd recorder. Anyone
know any registry settings that may be causing this? Thanks for any help you may
have.

If it's just the DVDs made by the video recorder that aren't working in your computer,
it's probably just an incompatibility with the equipment. No DVD (or CD) burn is
perfect and no blank disk is manufactured perfect either. Further, the blank disks
made by the various manufacturers are different, and the burner has to have the "write
strategy" in it's firmware before it can do a decent burn on any given brand.
I would try another brand of blank disk. Of the common brands, I'd probably buy
Verbatim, but there's no guarantees what works best in your equipment. You might
also consider buying another DVD drive for your computer. Some are made better than
others, and some will go bad over time due to many things including dirty lenses.
I just bought a Lite-On SOHW-1693S burner for $39 at newegg.com and it seems to do
a good job.

After restoring to 12-20, I could read the contents and get wmp to play the video
but no sound. Upgraded to wmp 10 thinking it would correct old wmp settings, but
then back to the same old problem. I think I will have to reinstall XP, as I think
it is in the registry where my problem is. Thanks for the reply. Keep on helping
the old duffers like me. JS
