Sounds like your system is fine...normal locations in XP (Pro, anyway) are in Binaries,
i386, and SevicePackUninstall. Do a search on msconfig.exe on your system to see.
I'm on a Pro machine right now, can't remember if Home is the same and seem to remember
that in Home it might be in system32. As a side note, Win2K doesn't have msconfig
included, but it's a small utility that fits on a floppy. I've copied it from XP
and when I add it to a 2K system I put it in system32 and it works fine.

Larry
thanks for the answer, i guess my problem is that until about 6 months ago I could
find my msconfig by going to start then run, now when i do that i can not find ms
config (conputer tells me it can not find it) so if i need to change something i
"look" for it and file search used to give me one location now it gives me 3 so i
got confussed and blamed some glitches on it (winXPhome), I guess all is OK then

Start / Run enter msconfig and press Enter or click OK. Much easier.

Rich
in case you missed it, my text states that that is what I have been doing but about
6 months ago start/run could not "find" msconfig, that is when i started looking
for it with file search and hence this conversation

Sorry Ivan, missed that. Most likely your path environment variable is messed up.
Right click on My Computer, select Properties.
Select the Advanced tab then click on Environment Variables button.
Under System Variables, scroll down to PATH.
Select it and click Edit.
Be careful now that you don't wipe out what is already there (if there is anything).
It needs to start with the following:
C:\WINDOWS\system32;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;
First check to see if it's there or if it's a bit corrupted. Add/modify as needed.
Check your changes to make sure they look good.
Click OK Ok OK.
Would be a good idea to backup your registryu before doing this in case you make
a mistake. Highly recommend ERUNT. Download and run it to make a complete backup.
The if there are problems you can easily restore it.
