How do I determine what causes random reboots on my PC?

Hi Leon
See Event Viewer - Run, eventvwr.msc
Note error message on screen - Google search for information
BSOD - error messages
Ensure error messages are displayed - set your computer:-
My Computer, Properties, Select the Advanced tab, Startup and Recovery, Settings.
System Failure, uncheck Automatically restart.
More about BSOD's:-

Thanks David.
My Problem however does not seem to be a BSOD.
One moment I will be working and the next the vdu goes black and the PC starts the
reboot.
Will however follow your advice and see what happens.

No BSOD or event log will indicate some sort of a hardware failure. The operating
system must be able to run minimumly to log an event or show a BSOD. When the hardware
stops, you get nothing and a reboot happens. Could be about anything from a bad
powersupply to a componant on the motherboard, a peripheral, add on card, memory
etc etc. It can be very frustrating to find such causes without the tools and experience
as well as known good componats to swap out if it comes to that. Also could be a
heat problem effecting some componant. Could try checking the memory with this:
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
as a start and take a hard look at the PSU and possible heat problems.
